Looking for testers for ‘Videos’ Plugin
Date Published: 28 April 2009

I’m getting close to releasing the alpha version of ‘Videos’ for GB-PVR

I just want a small group of users (around 10) to test it out and provide constructive feedback/report bugs.

Anyone willing to try this release should be aware that the next release may require changes to the Database ‘Videos’ will use, and any Metadata you’ve collected for your video collection will be lost.  But this is unlikely.

So if you’re interested reply to this thread.

Oh and if anyone is up to creating a ‘Blue’ skin for it, I would appreciate it (currently it only supports the Community Skin)

Here’s a preview of the new ‘Videos’ plugin I’m working on for GB-PVR.  There is still a few key features missing before I’ll do a alpha release (mainly the onscreen keyboard and installer for the database), but the basics are working and it is quite stable (just cleaned up a nasty memory leak).

Go to the youtube page to watch it in HD.

Website Improvements
Date Published: 13 November 2008

Just letting everyone know that I’ve made a few tweaks to the website, it now GZips most of the content (smaller pages) and does script and stylesheet combing/minification.

This should make the website much more responsive, there are a few other tweaks to performance I’ll play around with in the near future.

If you notice any problems with these changes, please post a thread in the “Website” forum, or contact me via the “Contact Us” form.

The website should be live and fully operationally on November 1st 2008.

Password Reset & Change Password Fixed
Date Published: 24 September 2008

Password reset has been redone (and it now sends you a password reset request before resetting your password).  Also I noticed that “Change Password” didn’t actually do anything and have now fixed this :)

Sorry to everyone who had issues with resetting their passwords, I can’t get back to all of you directly, but thanks to everyone who let me know of the problem.

A few people have been having issues with the password reset function on this site.  I just wanted to let everyone who is having this issue know that I am working on it, and it should be solved some time tomorrow night.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

xmlTVNZ v3.0.0.12 (Release Candidate 3) Released
Originally Published: 2 June 2008, Last Updated: 2 June 2008

Everyone with access to the prerelease forum can now download xmlTVNZ v3.0.0.12 (Release Candidate 3).  This should be the final RC before the final release, it has quite a few behind the scenes changes from RC2, hence the reason why I've done another RC release and not just a final release.

This main changes are in regards to the xmlTVNZmakers.xml file (where all the source/channels settings are stored - this file is the one that gets updated when a source/website is altered).  These changes were needed to support the online editor I've made to easily update the configuration.

I've also finally added Proxy support to xmlTVNZ which can be configured in the xmlTVNZ.exe.config file like so

<configuration>
    <appSettings>
        <add key="UseProxy" value="False" />
        <add key="ProxyServer" value="servername" />
        <add key="ProxyPort" value="8080" />
        <add key="ProxyUser" value="user" />
        <add key="ProxyPassword" value="domain" />
        <add key="ProxyDomain" value="password" />
    </appSettings>
</configuration>

So if you have any problems please start a thread in the xmlTVNZ 3.0 Release Candidate 3 Forum (not the public forums).

So I should have it ready by the end of the long weekend, its using the modified xmlTVNZMarkers.xml file (no longer "-beta" and the "-beta" file won't work with RC3).  This should fix all the issues people have been having recently as well as be the final Release Candidate before the final release.  I had to make another Release Candidate due to all the changes made in the xmlTVNZMarkers.xml file.

Sorry for the delay, but my move and webhost switch kept me busy and I had little to no time to work on xmlTVNZ.

Looking for old xmltvnzmarkers-beta.xml File
Date Published: 31 May 2008

Hey guys I'm looking for a old xmltvnzmarkers-beta.xml file, all my backups were on the old web server and it turns out that the current version (and all my newer backups) don't work with RC2 (and RC3 still needs a lot of work)

So if any of you have a xmltvnzmarkers-beta.xml file in your xmlTVNZ directory with the RequiredVersion field set to "3.0.0.11" can you please let me know the revision, and if currentish (around revision 700+) post it in the forum somewhere.

I'll be working on RC3 this weekend, in case no one has a valid copy, but I don't think it will be ready by the end of the weekend, in which case I may have to put up a fairly unstable RC version online.

TIA

Contact Us + Password Reset
Date Published: 31 May 2008

I've added a "Contact Us" page (sure it should be "Contact Me", but that doesn't sound right :P) and fixed the password reset.  I'll tweak this later to first send a verify password reset email, but for now it just sends you a new password.

So if you're having any problems registering please contact me via the "Contact Us" page.

New Web Host
Originally Published: 27 April 2008, Last Updated: 4 May 2008

Well I've finally switched to my new host, this means there will be a few problems here and there, so if you find a bug in the website (a 404, or a server error) can you post a message in the "website" forum, with the url and the steps it takes to reproduce the error.

I decided that the last changes made to xmlTVNZ v3 were to big not to test with another prerelease, so I'll be uploading that to the "Prerelease" forum soon (once all the kinks are worked out of the new site).

How to get Access to xmlTVNZ version 3

If you're new to the world of PVRs and xmlTVNZ, you would have missed this, but for all the newbies, the current version of xmlTVNZ (v2.5) is pretty much useless (only works with tv1, tv2 and prime) and I started rewritting it about a year ago to work with an external configuration file.

The external configuration file meant you would only need to download the main xmltvnz.exe and it would automatically update if a source changed (so you can configure your guide and completely forget about it).

This was a huge rewrite/redesign and needed to be tested thoroughly before switching over.  So I was maintaining v2.5 as well as developing the new v3.0, but then sky went and changed their site and now encrypt all their data, so v2.5 wouldnt work with most channels, and it was basically cancelled.  At that stage everyone (like 300+ users) donated to get instant access to version 3.0.  And since then everyone was using v3.0, my development slowed down and I start concentrating on other things.   But still I get the occasionally donation to get access to version 3.0.

Originally to get access to version 3.0 I just asked users to request, once I had about 50 of them, I closed it off.  But since people were donating money here and there (I was trying to raise funds for a development machine, which I did, thanks guys) I'd figured if you were going to donate you may as well get something in return, so I gave them access to version 3.0.  And it's continue this way ever since.

Now once the final version is out, I'm just going to upload it publicly so it won't always be like that (and with the webhost change, it shouldn't be like this for much longer), but until version is offically out, to get access to the version 3.0, you need to donate (to keep it fair to all those people that donated before, and to pay for hosting).

So here are the 3 donation levels

xmlTVNZSponsor2  xmlTVNZ Sponsor, this badge indicates you donated $50 or more

 xmlTVNZSupporter xmlTVNZ Supporter, this badge indicates you donated between $25 and $50

 Donor xmlTVNZ Donor, this badge indicates you donated anything else

Any level will get you access, so donate what you think is fair/can afford.

To donate just click on any of the "PayPal Donate" badges.

Add you MUST include your username with the donation, otherwise I won't know who you are in the forum.
